Background

Why was Aeraze developed?

The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has infected more than 225 million people in the world, including more than 4.6 million people in Italy in the last eighteen months. It has killed more than 4.5 million people worldwide and shows no sign of abating. Though lifesaving vaccines have been developed and are being administered, and nearly 2.5 billion people have been fully vaccinated, that number reflects only a minority of the world’s population. In addition, the virus continues to mutate and become more infectious, and fully vaccinated people are now contracting the infection. We are far from the day when SARS-CoV-2 will be eradicated, and additional safety measures beyond vaccines must be taken to protect our people.
One of the most effective ways to protect against outbreaks is disinfection. This is especially essential in high traffic and crowded areas. Orion, an Italian owned and operated company led by experts in laser technology, has developed a new product and method to fully sanitize these large areas quickly, effectively, inexpensively, and without the use of toxic chemicals.

Developed in collaboration with leading Italian and European research institutions, Aeraze is a device that uses ultraviolet light at a specific wavelength, administered through a handpiece, to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus and other pathogens. Germicidal ultraviolet light has been used as a disinfection method in healthcare, food, biotech, and water purification applications for decades. Other products adapting this technology for use against viruses have been developed with great success to disinfect small objects.

What sets Aeraze apart from other products and technologies?
Aeraze has been specifically developed to disinfect rapidly larger areas, such as hospitals and ambulances, airplanes and airports, transportation terminals, and public offices.

Aeraze Product

What does Aeraze offer?

Aeraze is a simple to use device that helps prevent outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2 pathogens by sanitizing high-touch surfaces and high-traffic indoor locations. Aeraze uses Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI), a disinfection method that uses short-wave ultraviolet light to kill or inactivate  microorganisms. It is an effective, proven, and environmentally friendly surface treatment method that avoids using harmful chemicals or heat. This device can sanitize large areas rapidly, while giving real-time feedback to the operator of the project areas, indicating which areas have been successfully treated and those areas that require additional treatment.
UV light is classified by wavelength.  Aeraze uses Far UV-C, the subset of UV-C ranging from 200nm to 225nm, which is a proven effective viral disinfectant particularly suitable as a technology response to the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 via air and surfaces. Aeraze’s wavelenght at 222nm is also considered to be safer to human exposure. Orion has developed the concept of “Controlled Photoinactivation” to deliver a new class of UVGI systems with Aeraze.
